About this release

“The Sandman” is a summertime hip-hop/pop record from Benny T & Austin Waves featuring Mauiwowi, connecting our roots in Texas with the island energy of Puerto Rico. The concept started with the double meaning of the Sandman: on one side, that late-night, sexy feeling of keeping somebody up when they should be sleeping; on the other, chasing dreams and watching those dreams become reality. We wanted the record to feel fun, and instantly familiar—an old-school, doo-wop-inspired bounce mixed with hip-hop, modern production and a tropical feel. Benny T & Austin Waves have been longtime friends and collaborators, and Mauiwowi brought the perfect personality and island flavor to complete the record. The chemistry was natural, and the goal was always to make something listeners would play that still sounded different from everything else in the rotation. Released July 24, 2026, our strategy has been hands-on from the beginning: independent digital promotion, playlist pitching, social content and direct DJ/Industry relationships. We took “The Sandman” to Atlanta and performed it at Coalition DJs’ New Music Mondays at the legendary Stankonia Studios, building relationships with DJs and tastemakers in the process. The record has since generated thousands of streams and carried us into the Timbaland Global Search quarterfinals on Orbiiit. Now we’re focused on putting it directly into DJs’ hands and letting the record grow where it belongs-in real rotations, clubs, parties, & playlists.
